About Me

My name is Nancy. Growing up in different cities and traveling to different locations have always made me passionate about food. While food around the world is always different, I can always find something that reminded me of the food at home, whether it is similar taste, similar ingredients or similar cooking: passing by Chinese restaurants in a remote town in Michigan, peeling a mango or stir-frying fresh green water spinach with garlic and chopped chilly.

Born in Bandung, a beautiful small town in West Java that is nicknamed “Flower City” and “Paris Van Java”, I do not particularly feel comfortable eating at high end restaurants. I usually feel nervous with vast amount of different kinds of forks, spoons and knives on the table and the formal feeling that I get when I entered the restaurants. But I still savor the delicious taste, delicate and expensive ingredients and especially amaze at how it is styled, organized and garnished can be pleasing to my palate. I like simple dishes like Siomay and Lotek and enjoy the atmosphere of outdoor cafes.

Something Nancy was created in memory of my father. My father is a simple man with humble needs for himself. His goal in life is for his children to be successful and he would sacrifice everything for his children. The wide age gap of more than 40 years and growing up away from home created a distance between us especially in our way of thinking and our activities. However, just like me, he likes driving on road trips in the country and traveling to new places. Whenever we went to new places he always wanted to try the well-known local delicacies and would not mind spending more on food.

Happy reading and remember to eat something nice today!
