Introduction to Something Precious

22 Sept 2012

Thanks to Susi’s baby shower, I breezed into a boutique restaurant, FJ Grill in Kemang Village. Surrounded by large glass walls, it has a cozy outdoor sitting area. Ideal to indulge in a simple Western meal over a glass of coffee on a slow Sunday afternoon.
I chose halibut fillet with capers, lemon and pistachio nuts to activate my taste buds. Halibut is a mild white fish that has a slightly sweet tasting and firm meat. I imagined that when combining halibut with salty, nutty crust of pistachio and the piquant and sour flavor of capers and lemon would have been a perfect combination.

While it is beautifully plated, the dish is a little disappointment. I can barely taste the capers and the pistachio is not as crunchy as expected. The dish tastes too mild and bland for my liking.
We played a few games that my friend prepared for the baby shower, like matching the names of celebrities and their children, naming the young of animals and guesstimate Susi’s belly size. Ah, the most memorable one would be our written messages to the-still-nameless-Susi’s-son to be handed when he gets older.
Unfortunately, I did not get a chance to try the dessert, but my friend brought me a cute yellow bird chocolate cake pop that I can enjoy on my ride back.
